GRIND FOR THE GREEN AND THE YERBA BUENA GARDENS FESTIVAL PRESENT

SAN FRANCISCO’S FIRST SOLAR POWERED HIP-HOP CONCERT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2008

(San Francisco, CA, August 12, 2008) -- Grind for the Green (G4G) and the 2008 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival today announced San Francisco’s First Solar Powered Hip-Hop Concert at Yerba Buena Gardens in downtown San Francisco on September 7, 2008 from Noon to 4:00pm. This unprecedented free event will feature a solar powered bio-diesel truck owned by the Solar Living Institute that will supply power for the entire event.  The Solar Powered Hip-Hop Concert will integrate established artists, community leaders, youth and their families under the banner of sustainability and environmental justice.

The Solar Powered Hip-Hop Concert, the final event in G4G’s summer eco-awareness series, will showcase the talents of some of the Bay Area’s most talented artists as well as the three G4G finalists who will compete for $500 and placement on the upcoming Grind 4 The Green Compilation CD. The audience will pick the winner. Slated to appear on the bill are Raashan Ahmad of Crown City Rockers, the dynamic FIYAWATA, Jahi, Queen Deelah and Hip-Hop tastemaker DJ Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist of True Skool. A special surprise host will emcee this event.

G4G is an annual summer eco-music festival produced by and for youth in the San Francisco Bay Area.  More than just a showcase for local talent, G4G provides a framework and applied learning environment where youth build business acumen and technical skills necessary for professional advancement. Hundreds of participants have had the opportunity to take part in programs including artist development workshops, jobs, internships and educational opportunities rooted in an environmental justice framework.

Destined Nation Media, producer of G4G, has recently completed three productions; an eco-music business seminar with headliner Talib Kweli; a performance workshop; and the first ever Green Beat Battle, hosted by Zion I’s Baba Zumbi and Amp Live.

Yerba Buena Gardens is located between Mission Street and Howard Street and 3rd and 4th Streets in downtown San Francisco.  For information, please visit www.grindforthegreen.com and www.ybgf.org or call (415) 543-1718.
